Daily Debate: What Zelda Game is the Coziest?
Posted on February 02 2024 by Chakell Herbert
Cozy games, namely games that make you want to stay inside all day, drink your favorite hot beverage, and snuggle in a blanket, are all the rage these days. Maybe it’s because we’re in that lull of winter right now, but I have been getting the itch to play cozy games all day long and neglect all my other responsibilities.
When you first think of cozy games, you might think of hits like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing. However, the Zelda series holds such a massive place in my heart that I often turn to some of my favorite adventures in the series to feel a sense of security and coziness in life. But one in particular takes the title of coziest in my book!
When I’m going through a stressful time, I often find myself longing to play The Wind Waker, which — while it has adventurous vibes and its share of darkness — is truly a comfort game to me. The Wind Waker‘s colorful world, whimsical characters, and overall feel just emanate coziness to me. I love the charming islands like Windfall and Outset that give one opportunities to explore and get to know their residents, I love sailing on the Great Sea, and I love that the music in this game brings warmth to my soul whenever I hear it. The cozy levels are high!
Other Zelda games that bring those cozy vibes my way are The Minish Cap, Breath of the Wild, and Skyward Sword. Hyrule might be full of evil and monsters, but it does have its share of comforts and bliss too. I would love to see a true cozy game set in this world one day!
What Zelda game do you think is coziest? Do any in particular bring those comforting vibes to you? Let us know in the comments!
Chakell (pronounced shuh-kell) is an associate editor for Zelda Dungeon! She has loved The Legend of Zelda series since she was a little girl because of its equal mix of princesses, besting bad guys, and heartfelt stories. Chakell lives in the overall tame state of Utah, but holds onto her childhood hopes to find an adventure in her backyard one day. She has a degree in English and is a full-time editor for a magazine. You can usually find her gaming (obviously), laughing with her husband, taking a long time to tell stories because she keeps getting distracted; getting sucked into books and podcasts; or snuggling her cute Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
