Daily Debate: What Are You Expecting From Tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct?
Posted on February 07 2023 by Emi Curtis
There are three inevitabilities in life: death, taxes, and that there will always be a Nintendo Direct in February. That has once again proven true as Nintendo has announced a Direct for tomorrow, February 8th. With that of course comes a brand new round of speculation of what lovely morsels of gaming news we’ll be privy to by this time tomorrow. A couple notable games linger on the horizon: Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Pikmin 4, and of course The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Besides those though, there’s not a lot on the calendar, which means there could be a lot of surprises in those 40 minutes. So that leaves the ripe question to ask as always: what are you expecting?
While one could say it is almost inevitable we’ll be receiving a lengthy segment on Tears of the Kingdom, I’ll hold my breath a little while. People have guessed similar things in the past with similar levels of confidence only to be dumbfounded. Let’s hope for all our sakes that little fear is misplaced. Likewise, it’s almost certain there will be another round of calls for Switch ports of Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD like there is every Direct. I certainly would not complain if the fabled remakes finally surfaced tomorrow.
My long-shot hope for tomorrow is getting another Zelda collaboration game in the vein of Cadence of Hyrule. I really love the times Nintendo gets more loose with its IPs and lets other developers have a spin with them. Another spin-off title with an interesting take on the boy in green would make for a really nice garnish on a mainline Zelda release that has had some time to settle later in the year. That seems tremendously unlikely, though, for this time of year.
What are your thoughts? What titles do you want to make an appearance tomorrow? What kind of announcements are you expecting? Let us know in the comments below.
