The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been out for a couple weeks now, and players are discovering many of the game’s surprises. But there’s at least one unforeseen change that has left some players a little frustrated. The Wolf Link amiibo no longer grants players access to the legendary canine companion. Instead, it merely offers a collection of meat, which we can assume was “hunted” by our wolf friend…I think.

True, the nature of gameplay in Tears of the Kingdom is much different. While Breath of the Wild was mostly horizontal exploration, the 2023 sequel is all about vertical discovery. Perhaps that is one reason the developers at Nintendo didn’t think it was a good fit this time around. Still, it’s difficult to feel anything other than disappointment with this change; exploring Hyrule in the early game alongside Wolf Link is a favorite moment for a lot of players, not to mention the great picture opportunities it provided.

And come on Nintendo… you still won’t let us pet the dogs. At least let us have our own!
