Breath of the Wild Sequel “Not Necessarily” Inspired By Majora’s Mask, Though it May be Darker

Following the reveal of the hauntingly dark trailer for the sequel to Breath of the Wild, some fans have speculated that the game may in some fashion be related to another dark sequel in the franchise, Majora’s Mask.
Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has seemingly put these theories to rest when speaking to IGN:
“The new Breath of the Wild or the sequel to it, it’s not necessarily going to be related to Majora’s Mask or inspired by it… What we showed you currently is a little darker.”
Fans can rest assured, at least for now, that although the game may be to Breath of the Wild what Majora’s Mask was to Ocarina of Time, it in fact will not be inspired by Zelda’s second outing on the Nintendo 64.
However, what may be the largest takeaway here is that the game may be darker than even that which it seems mirror. If that’s the case, then underground tombs and mummified corpses coming to life could be but the tip of the iceberg.
What are your thoughts on this game’s relation to Majora’s Mask, and how do you feel about this possibly being the darkest entry in the franchise? Let us know in the comments below!
