Original: The Legend of Zelda series has always had its share of frightening moments. Do you remember your initial encounter with Tears of the Kingdom’s Gloom Spawn? What about Ocarina of Time’s Dead Hand? Maybe you vividly recall the first time you ventured into The Minish Cap’s Royal Valley or The Wind Waker’s Earth Temple. Need I even mention the Silent Realm’s Guardians and Watchers from Skyward Sword?
If you love the sense of unease, creepiness, and outright dread that threads together many Zelda games, we have good news for you! Blood Moon Rising, a fan zine exploring the series’ scarier elements, is available for preorder through March 15th, 2024.
🌕 PREORDERS OPEN!! 🌕
Witness the Blood Moon’s rise. When its red glow shines upon the land the aimless spirits of slain monsters return to flesh… just as they did in a war long past

There are four Blood Moon Rising bundles open for preorder:
- New Moon – Digital Bundle ($15 USD), which comes with a PDF of the zine, three MP3 files, and a digital wallpaper.
- Waning Crescent – Book Bundle ($25 USD), which comes with a physical copy of the zine and the contents of the New Moon bundle (as well as a magnet via an unlocked stretch goal).
- Waxing Gibbous – Half Bundle ($40 USD), which features the full Waning Crescent bundle as well as a bookmark, a 4×6 art print, two die-cut stickers, the unlocked magnet stretch goal, and an enamel pin (the zine’s second stretch goal, which has already been reached).
- Blood Moon – Full Bundle ($55 USD), which includes everything from previous tiers (even the stretch goals!) as well as an additional 4×6 print, a sticker sheet, a double-sided wooden charm, and the possibility of a tote bag (provided the final stretch goal is met).
The zine is set to contain over 90 pages of horror-themed Zelda content, all of which is canon-compliant and free of gratuitous graphic content. The head mods for Blood Moon Rising, oswin and copicdragon, are veterans in the zine scene and, along with the rest of the mod team and contributors, are creating something special here.

Are you getting a preorder of the zine? What creepy moment from Zelda are you hoping to see in its pages? I personally would love for it to include Link’s first venture into Tears of the Kingdom’s Depths – that harrowing experience haunted the rest of my time with the game.
