Breath of the Wild Definitive Edition Announced During Japan’s Nintendo Direct

Aside from more information about Wave 2 of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity‘s Expansion Pass and the announcement of Nintendo 64 games coming to Switch Online (including Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask), there was no other Zelda news coming out of today’s Nintendo Direct… at least outside of Japan. During the Japanese Nintendo Direct live stream, there was additional Zelda news revealed: a physical version of Breath of the Wild, paired with all of the game’s DLC, will be released on October 8th!
This release is essentially a Definitive Edition, although it is not officially referred to as such. It would appear that the game will include digital codes in the game box that can be redeemed to get both Trial of the Sword and The Champions’ Ballad, rather than the DLC simply being included on the game cartridge. The bundle is priced at ¥8,980 yen, or $81.33 USD.
This is the first time Breath of the Wild‘s DLC has been paired with the base game in a physical bundle, which is why this announcement is noteworthy. There is no news on whether physical versions of Breath of the Wild in other regions will also include digital codes for the DLC’s, but that would be pretty cool! Until more information is available, we can only assume that this bundle will be a Japan exclusive for now.
Breath of the Wild with all its DLC included will be released in Japan on October 8th. The bundle is available for pre-order right here. A similar bundle for Splatoon 2 will be released on the same day.
Customers in other regions can still purchase a digital version of Breath of the Wild along with both DLC expansions from the Nintendo eShop.
