The game that started it all, the reason why we all had the opportunity to become Zelda fanatics, The Legend of Zelda was a deliberately crafted masterpiece from the beginning of its production. The game was meant to counterbalance Mario’s gameplay style by being open-ended, story-focused, and require players to think critically. It was the first home console game to save players’ progress, it took inspiration from Miyamoto’s childhood as well as high fantasy novels, and it contained only six…

Of all the races encountered in the Zelda series, the Gorons are the most enduring. They’ve held generally the same form since the very beginning of the timeline to the very ends of most, though nearly going extinct in two of the three. With their tribal culture and evolutionary adaptability, the Gorons have a long and very interesting history worth exploring. YouTube’s Dr. Wily recently did a Zelda Theory video on just that, “The Goron HISTORY And EVOLUTION.” He follows…

The Japanese are often buried on family plots, and the central stone in these plots will bare the family’s crest or “kamon.” In the case of Gunpei Yokoi, his family’s kamon bears a striking resemblance to the Triforce from our very own Legend of Zelda. Its appearance on the Yokoi plot peaked gamers’ interests considering who Gunpei Yokoi was. Yokoi was the creator of the Game Boy and an early game developer for Nintendo; he formulated the Game & Watch…

Zelda Lore in a Minute

January 11 2014 by Djinn

The Zelda series consists of many sequels over a twenty year long history and definitely creates very deep and complex history with many twists and turns. The confusion caused by the lengthy history has created much debate between the fans for years before Nintendo finally released the official timeline a year ago. But all of this might still be confusing for a beginner to the series. Fortunately YouTube member Lore is here to help out anyone who might be a…

Nintendo certainly prizes one of its most important franchises, The Legend of Zelda, so it would make sense that the teams chosen to create each Zelda game are carefully crafted. Making a Zelda game is a serious ordeal, and all of the people who consistently work on them, Shigeru Miyamoto, Eiji Aonuma, and Hiromasa Shikata, for example, take their jobs seriously. This isn’t to say they don’t have fun creating the games, but certainly the Zelda games leading up to and…

Zelda lore is truly unique. After over 25 years, we finally have a clear-cut timeline, and some very basic facts laid out: There are three Triforce pieces, several heroes, several princesses, and a monstrous succession of villains bred by hatred. But for every question each new game answers about the series’ lore, more questions arise. How does this world work? What is its history really like? How much of what we see in each Zelda game can we trust, when…

Today’s Zelda Fanart Spotlight is on Deviantart artist Cojirou’s Wind Waker fanart, ‘The Recording of the History of Hyrule‘. In this fanart it shows the what took place during the painting of the famous portrait of Princess Zelda and her couriers that is shown in the underwater Hyrule Castle. The artist in the picture is trying to situate the subjects of the painting in a pose that he will use to model the painting after. Apparently the possible ancestor of…

These swords were forged 5,000 years ago in what is today Turkey. Currently, they are the oldest swords to be discovered to date. The Aslantepe swords, as they have been called, are fascinating enough on their own, but what does this have to do with The Legend Zelda? If you take a look at the pictures, more than one sword has a Triforce on the hilt! Check out the jump for more pictures and information!

Guns in Zelda

March 17 2012 by Axle D. Wilder

Alright, first video discussion in a while, and the topic this time is kind of a doozy. In this video I talk about firearms (guns) in the Zelda series. This is a topic that’s been debated about for a while now and is very controversial; a lot of people have a huge aversion to the idea. Other people don’t mind it. Seems like a worthwhile topic for a video, am I right? You can watch the video here or view…
