Alright, let’s just consider this scenario: Hyrule is being invaded by aliens! We all know that Nintendo has considered aliens, and even pulled them off in a way in Majora’s Mask with “Them”, whether people believed they were aliens, or ghosts, whatever. They just really seemed extraterrestrial to most Zelda fans.

Anyway, humanoid aliens are planning to take over Hyrule, and eventually, the whole Zelda universe. When it seems that these otherworldly beings are too much for Hyrule’s Princess, the Hero of Time, and the other six Sages that protect the Sacred Realm, Zelda turns to the Triforce and wishes for the power to defeat them. The Triforce reacts, and the Ocarina of Time squad wait in anticipation for the amazing powers the Triforce will bestow upon them so that they can protect their kingdom. However, what they receive is not of their world, and not at all what they expected.

I imagine their reactions to these interesting new powers going down something like this…

A blinding light engulfs them all, and as it dies away, they find that they all seem a little bit… different.

Darunia gaped around. Link and three of the seven Sages had taken on new forms, and were garbed in some kind of armor — were skirts really considered armor? He glanced down at himself, mouth falling open as he saw that he too was wearing a skirt, and that his very own form of protection, his skin, was no longer made of rocks. “What the-”

Impa nodded solemnly, also reeling in the changes that have overcome them all. “It seems the powers the Triforce granted us required a wardrobe change.”

“Not just a wardrobe change!” Ruto exclaims, gingerly patting at her head. “I grew hair. And my skin is a different color! I’m pretty sure I’m not even a Zora anymore…”

“You’re right. Even Darunia doesn’t appear to be a Goron anymore either.” Impa notes.

“Oh, it’s more than that.” Nabooru says, the least disturbed by the changes. “Darunia seems to have transformed into a vai!”

Darunia still looked too dumbfounded to respond.

“Link has turned into a girl too!” Ruto gasps.

While everyone is stating their observations, Link is standing off to the side, running his fingers through his blonde hair that has grown significantly longer, and was tied up in funny-looking pigtails, looking confused.

Nabooru shrugs. “Eh, Link has always kinda looked like a vai.”

“Have I also changed- um, genders?” Zelda wonders, taking in her new outfit. It appeared to be some kind of tuxedo.

“Considering you spent the last seven years running around Hyrule dressed as a man, that wouldn’t be so shocking, Princess.” Impa says.

“At least none of you have turned into…” Rauru pauses, shuddering. “A cat.”

They all look down and see that Rauru and Saria have indeed taken on some sort of feline transformations.

“I- is all this permanent?” Darunia finally speaks, still looking down at himself in complete horror.

Zelda shakes her head. “I don’t think so. We only asked for this power in order to defeat our enemy. A borrowed power. Once we’ve achieved victory, we should return to our original states.”

There was a notable sigh of relief among the cats, Ruto, Darunia, and even Link who, of all people, looked slightly anxious.

“Oh right, the enemy!” Nabooru exclaims. They had all been so distracted by their transformations that they had almost forgotten the siege from the extraterrestrial beings.

They didn’t need to worry, though. It seemed as if the aliens were just as floored by their complete change from typical beings of Hyrule to five pretty guardians, a tuxedo-wearing weirdo, and two cats, that they had all stopped in their tracks to gape.

Zelda glanced among her companions. Rauru was a white cat, while Saria was black. Nabooru, Ruto, Darunia, Impa and Link all sported some kind costume she had seen the Royal Ballet wear when she was a kid. All the same, but slightly different, in ways that were similar to their respective temples. Darunia’s outfit was red, and Ruto’s was blue. Perhaps their fire and water abilities were now more enhanced? Nabooru’s was orange and, strangely, Impa’s was green. That one seemed to be a mismatch. Then again, Saria was a cat and Link was wearing pink, so what even really made sense anymore?

They all even looked like the ballerinas from the Royal Ballet as well. Tall, poised, and beautiful, as strange as that was to think of a Goron warrior like Darunia. As for Zelda’s own getup, her disguise as Sheik had been minimal and practical, while a tuxedo and cape just seemed to be… more of a fashion statement than useful.

Zelda noticed then that Link was holding some kind of powerful-looking scepter, and she remembered that the Trifoce had always been something beyond their understanding. That was why it needed to be protected. Something so powerful made them go through these changes for a reason. Whatever reality the Triforce borrowed these transformations from, they must have been the greatest protection of that dimension.

And Zelda was going to take full advantage of it.

Without really understanding why, but having the muscle memory to do so, Zelda pulled a rose from within her vest, holding it like the senbon she used to wield as Sheik.

“We can discuss how strange and disturbing this all is another time. For now, we have a kingdom to save!”

If a scenario like this were ever to occur in the Zelda universe — as absolutely bonkers as it sounds — I think that these characters would be able to shrug something so bizarre off and take full advantage of these borrowed powers in order to save Hyrule. Saria and Rauru would have some innate knowledge of these powers, and would be able to guide the Sailor Sages on how to use them. Darunia and Ruto would be able to weaken the enemy with water and fire based attacks, while Nabooru used some kind of weird, magical chain, and Impa used lightning and pure awesomeness. Zelda would jump around and cause a distraction when needed, and finally, Link would dust them all with moon power!

Bananas, I know. But super fun to think about if you asked me! What do you guys think? Can you imagine a Zelda/Sailor Moon mashup? What If week is about being as outlandish and fun as possibly. Is this concept really out there? Or do you have other What If…? ideas that can take the cake? Share your thoughts in the comments below?
