Tears of the Kingdom Wins Two Awards at the 2024 Game Developers Choice Awards

Almost a year since its release, Tears of the Kingdom continues to receive more accolades for what it has accomplished. Honors for the Zelda team continue to pour in, as the game was nominated for seven awards at the 2024 Game Developers Choice (GDC) Awards. While the newest title in the Zelda series didn’t take home all the gold from the ceremony, it was still given some well-earned recognition.
This year’s GDC Awards saw Tears of the Kingdom take home not only the award for Best Technology, but the ceremony’s Innovation Award as well. This was no small feat either, as the game faced some tough competition in both categories. Take the nominees for Best Technology for example; the title had Starfield, Alan Wake II, Spider-Man 2, and Baldur’s Gate III to contend with. The nominees for the Innovation Award were no joke either, as they included Cocoon, Hi-Fi Rush, and The Making of Karateka as well.
Senior Director for Tears of the Kingdom Takuhiro Dohta accepted both accolades on the team’s behalf. His acceptance speeches can be seen at 1:34:58 and 2:17:28 in the video above, respectively. The awards ceremony also saw the latest Zelda title get nominated for Best Audio, Best Design, Best Narrative, Best Visual Art, and Game of the Year.
