The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), in partnership with IGN, presented the 27th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards last night, shining a spotlight on last year’s greatest video game achievements. Alongside other acclaimed 2023 titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, COCOON, and Alan Wake 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was nominated in several award categories, including Outstanding Technical Achievement, Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction, and, of course, Game of the Year.

Tears of the Kingdom took home only one award last night: Adventure Game of the Year. Nintendo of America’s Nate Bihldorff took the stage to accept the award on behalf of the development team. Alan Wake 2, COCOON, DAVE THE DIVER, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor were also nominated for this award.

The coveted Game of the Year award, meanwhile, went to Baldur’s Gate 3. You can find the full list of winners and nominees right here.

Composer Koji Kondo, known for his work on The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., and other Nintendo franchises, was recognized and inducted into the D.I.C.E. Hall of Fame during the ceremony as well.

You can watch the full ceremony right here.

The D.I.C.E. Awards are organized by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences and coincide with the annual D.I.C.E. (Design Innovate Communicate Entertain) Summit. Awards are juried by a panel of video game industry professionals (including developers, programmers, artists, and publishers) and can be considered the video game equivalent to the film industry’s Academy Awards.
