For having so few people, the Zelda games sure do feature a lot of graveyards. I don’t know if a case of plague swept through recently, but there seem to be as many headstones as there are denizens of Hyrule. Regardless of these seemingly unsustainable demographic trends, Graveyards have provided some neat things to do as well as a unique spooky aura in a number of Zelda games, and in today’s ZD Top; our staffers recount five of their…

No matter how lovely a game world can be, sometimes you just need to get somewhere and need to do it fast. In this week’s ZD Top 5, there is no time for sight-seeing. Though it isn’t territory that the Zelda series has deeply explored, online and time-based multiplayer events have been seen in a number of successful games of late. Some of the more popular titles that have utilized this mechanic are Bloodborne and Destiny, but could the Legend of Zelda capitalize on this new trend? It’s expected the series would likely have new dungeons, battles, or other events that would be scheduled to occur worldwide at specific times and dates. This isn’t…

While we’ve still got quite awhile to wait for Nintendo’s attractions at Universal to be all wrapped up and ready for the public, it’s safe to say that at least one Legend of Zelda themed structure will be included. Being an Action-Adventure series with dungeons, shops, castles, and mini-games galore Universal has quite a bit to work with. Crafting the perfect Legend of Zelda attraction is sure to bring in patrons, so let’s find out just what rides, restaurants, gift-shops,…

Throughout the Zelda series, no clear romantic relationship is ever established between Link and any other character. The closest we have gotten to something like this would be Skyward Sword and while there is clearly something going on there, nothing is truly confirmed to be happening. Link has met a lot of romantic interests throughout his adventures. Malon, Ruto, and Zelda, to name a few. But out of all the girls Link has come across, which one is right for him?  …

A Link to the Past established many of the Zelda series’ staples and stabilized the gameplay style we’ve now seen time and time again in its progeny. Having been remade, ported, and given a spiritual successor in A Link Between Worlds, A Link to the Past remains a fan favorite among longtime Zelda players. One of the greatest things about the game is its diverse and challenging set of dungeons and palaces. Each one has a personality all its own,…

Hyrule has provided refuge for a plethora of unique and important races throughout its history. We’ve met with Zoras, Gorons, Kokiri, Hylians, Deku, Picori, Koroks, Rito, Kikwi, Gerudo, Twili, and Sheikahs– just to name a few. No matter how long the list of races, each manages to be important to the game or games it appears in and fully developed both visually and culturally. Just when I think the Zelda series can’t possibly create another distinctly memorable race, one appears…

There has been a lot of talk about whether or not the Zelda formula is helping or hindering the growth of the series, but it’s indisputable that certain aspects are absolutely necessary for a game to be considered a Zelda game. Does the hero have to be part of a legendary prophesy? Would the games be the same if they were bereft of dungeons to explore and temples to overcome? How would the ambiance suffer if the games’ soundtracks weren’t…

One would think that the Master Sword as a weapon is the end-all-be-all of power, but this isn’t the case. In certain Zelda games there are additional swords that Link can acquire which deal more damage, without all of the sacred significance. In other games the Master Sword needs to be powered up throughout, meaning Link still has to scour Hyrule for the materials needed to forge a stronger blade. This begs the question, does the option to use other…
