Zelda games come in many shapes and sizes. They appear on both handhelds and home consoles. They span massive 3D adventures, dense top-down quests, and even a side-scrolling action RPG. Each new installment in the storied series can be very different from the last, and yet there is one thread that is a constant throughout all of the main games: the protagonist, Link. He is the hero of every game, the player character in each installment. And it is he who makes The Legend of Zelda my favorite series of video games. But what is it about Link that makes him such an icon?

It’s been a while, but our weekly Caption Contest is back! Last time, Ghirahim was creeping a little too close to Link which brought about, as expected, some pretty “interesting” replies. As we are trying to keep this site kid friendly, there were some we couldn’t present in our post. However, if you really wanna see some of the more mature content, you can check them out here. All of the entries were great and I don’t think this week will fail to deliver either. This time around, we’re featuring another Skyward Sword scene with Zelda giving Groose the “what’s what”. As always,we are continuing the trend of featuring the images and text captions that were your favorites. Enjoy!

Of all the characters introduced in Skyward Sword, it is pretty safe to say Groose is by far the most popular. Not only is he one of the highest requested choices to make an appearance in Super Smash Bros. 4 but he has also become the subject of multiple memes and reaction images. With his loud, me-first attitude and all-around lovable characteristics it is fairly easy to see why. Another important part of Groose, though, is his music. Not only…

Sometimes things in video games are backwards. Often they’re intentionally backwards for ironic and comedic effect, and these are usually obvious to the player. Other times, though, situations in games can be backwards by accident, such as this example from Skyward Sword. Alex from Corpse Run Comics seems to do a good job finding these kinds of things in the Zelda series, even if we may have all considered the ideas when we were playing. Hit the jump to read the comic!

So many rich characters exist in the Zelda universe who can star in their own adventures whether they be silly or serious. Nintendo hasn’t explored spin-offs in Zelda nearly as it has in Mario, and by no means do I want Zelda to be over-saturated with silly spin-off games. In no way should Nintendo actually make spin-offs based off all of these characters, but if they could, these would be the select few who would have their time in the…

Here we have a comical video put together by YouTube user twilitprincess. She took clips from cut scenes of Skyward Sword and edited sound and music to go with specific parts of the video. Some of the sounds featured in the video were taken from Spongebob, the movie Happy Gilmore, the song Sexy and I Know It, and more. Altogether, it’s a rather interesting compilation. Younger viewers are cautioned before watching the video, because not all the language is appropriate….

Last week 1up began their own little “Lets Play” of The Legend of Zelda: A Groose to the past. They started their adventure off naming the hero after the fan favorite Skyward Sword character, Groose. Trying to take on as much of the game as they can without too many mess ups. They will be recording a video and releasing it once a week. This week is part 2 in what I expect to be at least a 7 part…

One of the more anticipated elements of Skyward Sword, prior to its release, was the plotline. Many of us were curious about what sort tale this prequel would tell, especially with Nintendo’s promises of it dealing with elements from Ocarina of Time. Later information released about the game implied major connections to Twilight Princess, and potentially to The Minish Cap, so naturally this made fans more excited and many, including myself, began to theorize about what might happen in the…

The official Japanese website has been updated with several new Skyward Sword goodies including several pieces of artwork. We’ve now seen massive overview images of Skyloft, Farons Woods, and the Sky Temple, all of which you can see after the jump. Additionally, we’ve seen some updated artwork of Fi, some new artwork of Groose, and a new unnamed Forest-race. We don’t have an official name for these penguin-like creatures just yet, but here at Zelda Dungeon we are tentatively referring…
