I want to state from the outset this isn’t a “woe is us” type post, but rather an open discussion on the merits and downfalls of social media for a fan site such as ours. In fact, it’s not even ourselves that we feel bad for – we feel it worse for our fans, and secondly for any other up and coming fan site like ours as they try to make it in a social media online world that has slowly become less inviting for new players.

For those unaware, we have a handful of very pointed social media presences. By far our most popular presence is that of Facebook. Our Facebook page has 184,000+ likes at the time of this post. Next is the 17,000+ following us on Twitter, followed by 3,000+ on Google Plus (via our sister site, Gamnesia) and just over 1,000 on our brand new Tumblr page. It should be noted these are not the only available social media platforms out there. There is Instagram and raptr as well, just to name a couple.

A while back, we were treated to one of the greatest pieces of Zelda fan art, a beautiful replica of Majora’s Mask! Created and detailed by Mario Mayer, his mask blew our minds beyond their thresholds, and he has returned with his next project ready in hand.

Mario had been asked and begged to replicate the Fierce Deity Mask, but this time he’s skipping out on Majora’s rival mask. Instead, Mario will go for the second mask players encounter in Majora’s Mask, the Deku Mask! To help promote his next project, Mario has posted the featured image as a teaser, but notes the actual replica likely won’t look the same. Head past the jump for Mario’s full statement on the project!

I am not sure if any of you remember, but a few months ago I posted about a work-in-progress Majora’s Mask art project. The project by Mario Mayer is an incredibly realistic, wooden replica of the mask. The mask is not only carved from a single slab of wood besides the horns and eyes but is fully sized and perfectly textured. When I first featured it in July it was only in the beginning stages, without even the spikes or…

In a recent Facebook Q&A session with fans, series producer Eiji Aonuma shed some light on aspects of the upcoming A Link Between Worlds which up until now, have been fairly mysterious. These include the game’s antagonist, Yuga, and the curious Maiamai race, including the item-upgrading character known as Mother Maiamai. In addition to this info, Aonuma also slipped in a small comment regarding Majora’s Mask, presumably to address the recent hype surrounding the possibility of a remake. Hit the…

Apparently even Microsoft can appreciate the impact The Legend of Zelda has had on gamers, even though it isn’t one of their franchises. The official Xbox Facebook page has been caught mentioning Nintendo’s popular fantasy adventure series in a recent post, and -believe it or not- the reference wasn’t meant as a snub. Could this be an example of a major game company showing a token of goodwill to it’s competition? Find out after the jump.

Nintendo of America will soon be launching a competition on the Nintendo Facebook page where fans can submit artwork inspired by The Wind Waker HD. There will be 5 winners and 50 finalists up with the prizes being pretty awesome. It just so happens that the Symphony of the Goddesses concert is touring North America which is linked to one of the great prizes to be won. Take the jump for full details!

Around the beginning of this month, many of you may remember a fan campaign created on Facebook to voice giving Princess Zelda a stronger role in future titles. This campaign was created after Aonuma, the director of The Legend of Zelda series, stated he would entertain the idea of a playable Princess Zelda if enough people showed the support. The pure goal of this campaign is to act as the voice Aonuma is looking for. It turns out that some fans are…

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another podcast, but this time with a twist. We have an announcement to make. Rish and I are now on Facebook and Twitter! Feel free to follow, like, or otherwise creep on both of us. We will use the sites to let you know about podcast news, upcoming podcast events, and general ‘what is going on in Din and Rish’s lives’. On this month’s podcast we have two new submitters as well as an old…

An interview with Aonuma during E3 revealed that Nintendo would consider giving Zelda a stronger role in a game, or even her own game if fans requested it enough. So, soon after that interview, a growing new Facebook page was created requesting that Zelda be a bigger part of future games. Maybe if it gets big enough Nintendo will actually start planning a game that features the series’ namesake! Hit the jump to read more about the interview and this…

We’ve heard that Eiji Aonuma would be open to having Princess Zelda as a playable character in future Zelda entries. When we wrote a letter to him, the post received over five hundred comments. It now seems that others have also taken up this torch. A Facebook page has been opened titled, “Nintendo Please Give Princess Zelda A Stronger Role.”

The description of the page goes on to explain:

“Stronger” can mean a lot of things. The character the Legend of Zelda series is named after is the ruler of a country with the Power of Wisdom and the Gods at her disposal, yet she’s often represented as a damsel in distress. While she’s had great moments as characters like Sheik and Tetra, she more often than not feels like a background character, overshadowed by the two other Triforce bearers, Link and Ganon. Nintendo, the fans, male and female, have wanted this for so long: please give Princess Zelda future roles more befitting of her actual attributes. And, if you see fit, make her a playable protagonist.

As of posting, the page has over 4,500 likes. On the page, the creator has noted that it is an even split of males and females who are in favor of giving the Princess a more prominent role in an upcoming entry.

To help support the cause, you can head to the site, Like the page, and comment there. Also let us know in the comments below if you would like to play as Zelda one day.
