Spike Chunsoft Publishing Cadence of Hyrule in Japan, New Screenshots & Assets Released
Posted on April 27 2019 by Rod Lloyd
We haven’t seen much of Cadence of Hyrule since its announcement last month, so color us happy to finally hear some new information about this rhythm roguelike Zelda spinoff. While it should come as no surprise, considering the Japanese publication of Crypt of the NecroDancer, Cadence of Hyrule will be published by Spike Chunsoft in Japan. The publisher recently launched an official page for the game on its website, which includes a few new screenshots and in-game assets.
The official Cadence of Hyrule page on Spike Chunsoft’s website is fairly standard at first glance, listing some basic information and embedding the announcement trailer from last month. However, as discovered by a perceptive fan on Twitter, the mobile version of the site includes some brand new art and screenshots hidden behind the game’s logo.
Most of the screenshots feature areas seen in the announcement trailer, though one shows off an ice-themed area we have not seen before. This screenshot also gives us our first look at Cadence of Hyrule‘s HUD, which seems to be a combination of a standard Zelda HUD — with traditional Zelda items like bombs, boomerang, and shield assigned to face buttons — and that seen in Crpyt of the NecroDancer — with an inventory of temporary items like spears, rings, and spells degrading over time. Official art of the game’s Wizzrobe enemy can also be spotted behind the logo.
Additionally, near the bottom of the desktop and mobile versions of the website there are animated sprites of Link, Zelda, and Cadence (the protagonist from Crypt of the NecroDancer). I assume these are the same sprites we’ll see in the final game, which is pretty exciting. As we learned last month, the pixel art in Cadence of Hyrule was created by artists who worked on the acclaimed Sonic Mania.
Cadence of Hyrule is a crossover between The Legend of Zelda and indie roguelike Crypt of the NecroDancer. The game will release later this spring.
