Psychologist Claims Playing Breath of the Wild Can Treat Fortnite Addiction

Gaming addiction is a sad truth for many players around the world. I first heard about gaming addiction around the height of Blizzard’s MMORPG World of Warcraft, but nowadays a large trend toward addiction for the young gamers relates to the massively popular online sandbox game Fortnite. While we can’t yet say for sure what can effectively treat Fortnite addiction, one psychiatrist believes that one particular Zelda game can serve as a therapeutic alternative.
In a recent interview, French psychologist Michaël Stora claims that using Breath of the Wild as a substitute for Fortnite could help with addiction to the latter. Stora believes that the open-world nature of this Zelda title could help combat the competitive mindset that Fortnite provides. Stora, who refers to himself as a “psygamer”, has worked with both adults and children alike suffering from behavioral disorders. Based on his experience, Stora has worked as a consultant for game publishers such as Activision, Microsoft, Ubisoft, Sega, and EA.
The full Michaël Stora interview is available on YouTube, though the entire interview is in French.
