It’s time again for ZI’s weekly Photoshop Contest, but as many of you are aware, this week has seen a bit of heartbreak. Last weekend, just a few days after the start of last week’s contest, we tragically lost one of the game industry’s biggest heroes, Satoru Iwata. He was hugely important to me and to many others, so this week’s contest will serve as a way to honor his memory. Let’s quickly look back at last week’s contest: Misusing the Minish Cap, and we can then show our respects to Satoru Iwata.

Last Week’s Contest:

Partially inspired by Marvel’s new Ant Man film, I asked contestants to misuse the magical Minish Cap with their Photoshop skills. The premise did not yield as many crude images as I reluctantly expected, and we did see some truly interesting entries.

There were no Challenge Mode submissions last week, so the image of a tiny Link piloting a remote-controlled assault drone will have to stay in our imaginations. Oh well…

This Week’s Contest: Honoring Satoru Iwata

On July 11, 2015, Nintendo president and CEO Satoru Iwata tragically passed away. This news came as quite a blow to the gaming community, as we could never be ready to lose a person so dear to us and our passions. In the days following Iwata’s passing, gamers of all kinds paid tribute to Iwata — even some of your friends at Zelda Informer — as they shared how he forever impacted Nintendo, the world of games, and all our lives as gamers.

While Satoru Iwata was a focused programmer and a committed business man, he always found ways to have fun and act silly. This is what I admired most about him. So this week, the contest will be to reflect Iwata’s fun-loving sense of humor in our Photoshop creations. In the most fun and tasteful way you can think of, ‘shop images as a tribute to the legend himself. Grab a banana and strike a pose, because we’re about to get started. Please understand that you can make use the images in our gallery below or anything else from the internet for your entry.

General Rules:

  • Submit your entries in the comments section below.
  • To save images from the gallery, right click the image in the gallery (without opening the image in lightbox) and select open image in new tab. Go up to the address bar and delete __small from the URL. Hit enter, right click, and save!
  • Photoshop is not required to enter the contest. Any image manipulation software can be used to create your entry.
  • Please refrain from using offensive material (racial, sexual, overuse of offensive language, etc.) We want to make the contest fun and accessible for fans of all ages.
  • Everyone is entitled to their own opinion at Zelda Informer. In fact, we encourage discussion based on those opinions. However, please do not insult other fans’ work. What may be funny to one person may not hold true for another…and that’s OK.
  • Have fun and be creative!

Deadline: Submit entries no later than next Wednesday at midnight: 11:59 p.m. PST on July 22. Entries submitted after this Deadline will not be considered.

Challenge Mode

For those that who want to test their skills with something more challenging, we have a Challenge Rule for you to follow:

1. Your entry must include a character from Balloon Fight, Kirby, and Earthbound.

If you think you’re up to the challenge, include the phrase Challenge Accepted with your submission. Remember, Challenge Mode submissions follow the same rules and guidelines of the base Photoshop Contest in addition to the Challenge Rules.

Good luck!
