I love to harp on about the Temple Of The Ocean King and how it pulls Phantom Hourglass down my ranking list of Zelda games. However, I will acknowledge that Phantom Hourglass is one of the Zelda games that are unfortunately overshadowed because of the amount of stupendous Zelda games it gets compared to. In my preferring of Breath of the Wild, The Wind Waker, and even Spirit Tracks, I often forget how much I enjoyed the charm, intelligence, and wit that the 2007 DS title offered.

You could say this Phantom Hourglass medley posted by YouTuber and musician PitTan has warmed my heart a tad, reminding me through music the things I enjoyed about the game. A trio made up of cellist Francis Yoon, pianist Helaine Liew, and violinist Hana Tan moves gracefully and beautifully through “The King Of The Oceans” and into the cheerful “Mercay Island” and the bombastic “The Great Sea”, ending with a slight nod to the game that began three-dimensional Zelda games, Ocarina of Time. The medley reminded me of my first play through of Phantom Hourglass, the joy that came with playing the sections of the game that were outside of the Temple of The Ocean King, and of course the genius of original composers Toru Minegishi and Kenta Nagata.

The medley itself was arranged by Helaine Liew and the audio was mixed by Hana Tan. The video of the musicians playing was filmed by Panagiotis Karamanos and filmed at Messiah Studios. The audio was recorded by Julian ‘Zorsy’ Sanches. You can support PitTan through Patreon and keep an eye out for what they do next by checking out their Instagram, Spotify, Twitter, and Facebook. The trio as a whole, called “Virtual 2 Reality” has an Instagram page here.

What do you think? Do you love the enthusiasm of the musicians as much as I do? What was your favorite part of the medley? What is your favorite song in Phantom Hourglass? Let us know in the comments below!
