Ever since Super Mario Maker was released in 2015, fans have anticipated what a creativity-based game would look like for the Zelda series. The concept was officially explored in the 2019 remake of Link’s Awakening, where the Camera Shop is replaced by Dampe’s Shack. However, the dungeon creation was limited in that you were only able to rearrange existing dungeon rooms already in the main part of the game.

There have been multiple instances of independent developers beating Nintendo to the punch as far as a fully-fledged dungeon maker. An upcoming one, entitled Super Dungeon Designer, now has a demo released in conjunction with online event Steam Next Fest. The game looks to have a Zelda-esque style to it, the adventure filled with cracked walls, lit torches, and top-down dungeon crawling reminiscent of A Link to the Past. The game looks to prove that a game doesn’t need to have the name “Zelda” in the title for a Zelda fan to have a good time.

Super Dungeon Designer will not only allow for complex designs, but also will have online multiplayer options, so you can conquer the dimly-lit corridors with up to four friends. The game, which has a projected release window of September 2023, has a trailer here and you can be notified about when their kickstarter launches by clicking here.
