Here’s a Translation of the Lyrics in the Official Japanese Vocal Arrangement of “Ballad of the Wind Fish”

Nintendo Japan recently released a trailer for the upcoming Link’s Awakening remake which featured a new vocal arrangement of the game’s iconic tune “Ballad of the Wind Fish”. The arrangement, sung entirely in Japanese, stirred up a lot of excitement among our team, as this was the first official version of the song with lyrics. If you were wondering what the lyrics mean in English, we have the translation right here!
The lyrics in this version of “Ballad of the Wind Fish” reflect on the nature of dreams, alluding to the game’s setting, as well as relate to the feelings of Marin, who sings the song throughout Link’s adventure:
“夢をどうか覚めないで
Please let this dream somehow not end
君は願うけれど
Although that is your desire
夢はいつか覚めるもの
It is the nature of dreams to end eventually
それは、時の…
That is time’s-“
The song fades out mid-lyric at the end of the trailer, meaning we haven’t heard the whole arrangement. We’re hoping a full version of the song (perhaps even a version in English) will be present in the final game.
And in case you were wondering, we also have a translation of the voice over that comes in during the final moments of the trailer:
“That island isn’t anywhere, but it’s definitely real. Nintendo Switch. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.”
Link’s Awakening comes to Nintendo Switch on September 20th.
