UntitledStreetPass has proved effective for a Zelda game after A Link Between Worlds’ Dark Link battles, but with Majora’s Mask 3D coming out soon, perhaps there could be something new! It is unclear if there will even be StreetPass compatibility in the game, and Ocarina of Time 3D not having it is not a great indicator, but still, we can hope and theorize! There may even be more portable Zelda games not far off, so who knows what Nintendo will do? Join the discussion after the jump.

Something that Zelda games often strays away from is elements of customization. Whether it is based on equipment, collectibles, or any sort of actual gameplay, things mostly seem out of the player’s hands. That being said, I think that, were Nintendo to make more customization options available, StreetPass could be helpful in further developing it. Hyrule Warriors introduced the idea of craftable item drops from killed monsters, and variable equipment. Maybe something like this will be done again, in a way that lets StreetPass users trade items and materials, or in the case of collectibles, trophies or extra content. It certainly could convince people of using StreetPass more, especially if it were the main campaign that was being benefited.

Majoras_mask_3dAs for the obvious upcoming game, Majora’s Mask 3D, again, Ocarina of Time 3D had no use of StreetPass, so its sequel could certainly lack it as well. At the very least, I think it should have something like The Wind Waker HD‘s Tingle Bottles, sending little messages to people you pass, and maybe even to people that have SpotPass activated, acting sort of like Miiverse. Of course, it could still do the same thing as A Link Between Worlds, offering customizable Dark Link Battles, but the combat would be quite a bit different, so whether it would still work well is a pressing question.

What do you guys think? What should Majora’s Mask 3D, or any other Zelda game on a future handheld, do with StreetPass? Leave a comment below!
