Dr. Link: Diagnosis of Characters #6

drlinkMy previous patient was a lesser known character from The Wind Waker, Gossack, who had an inconclusive diagnosis. This week, by popular demand, I am going to take a look at a well known character who makes an appearance throughout many games in the Zelda series. His name is never given, and is on most occasions seen out and about, worrying about his task at hand. He is constantly running from place to place, but seems happy where he is.

Welcome to the office of Dr. Link, the digital doctor of mental and psychological disorders for characters in the Zelda series. Today we have our sixth patient, the Postman, who is seen throughout the Zelda series and makes an appearance in six games. He is devoted to what he does, and is very good at what he does. He never forgets anything that is told to him, and always knows exactly which letter goes to who and who it is from. His symbol in all the games is the bunny. Even though he seems quite normal, here is the write up.

postmanPatient Name: Postman
Appearance: By postboxes and running around (Majora’s Mask, Oracle of Ages, The Minish Cap, Twilight Princess, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks)
Symptoms: First off, the Postman is never seen sleeping. In Majora’s Mask he can be seen taking a break, but that’s only at night and he is still awake and thinking, not asleep. And in the other games, even at night he can be found out and about still delivering letters, which he never misses, he always delivers on time and in a very fast manner. Along with being on time, he has his own self recognition system where he will hum a victory tune to himself every time he successfully delivers a letter.

In most of the games, especially in Twilight Princess, when he delivers a letter he tells you who sent it and how many letters you have at the time even before he pulls the letter out of his bag. He has a perfect memory and never forgets anything he has been told or anything he has read.

Diagnosis:

  • Anxiety Disorder: causes stress and panic over daily events and situations that cause the effected to stress. It has many main effects, here are two that the Postman has:
    1. Insomnia: Not being able to sleep at all during the night, sometimes due to stress or anxiety. The Postman takes his job very seriously and is constantly on a tight schedule of delivering letters on time and he worries about the next day’s mail, or trying to find someone who he has never heard of before.
    2. Low Self Esteem: when one feels low about their personal worth. People with a low self esteem often can hide it but are very anxious and stressed over things that they have to do in the future and feel they have to do it well in order to feel good about themselves. The Postman hums himself a victory tune every time he delivers a letter and stresses over delivering his mail on time.

  • Hypernanomynianicle: a disorder that causes a person to remember everything in their life. This is why the Postman can remember every letter that he has or has had and why he knows everything about that letter without even looking at it. He always knows where you are and what time to find you.
