When Nintendo shocked fans with the announcement of a completely remade Link’s Awakening for Switch, it joined a growing list of popular video game remakes, such as Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy VII. Opinions on the game’s new design were varied but the general consensus was great! With such a positive reception around the Link’s Awakening remake, it’s fair to wonder what other Zelda games could use a new coat of paint.

Staying inside the idea of a remade 2D title, there are several Zelda games that come to mind. For me, the biggest benefactors would easily be the one that started it all — The Legend of Zelda. But at the same level, the one that made the series what it is today — A Link to the Past. Both games have gone through a bit of a renaissance of late, especially in the speedrunning and randomizer communities. As such, they could be major cash cows for Nintendo, should they pursue a remake for either title.

Opening up these games into a sprawling, contiguous world would embrace the open world treatment of more modern Zelda titles, while allowing new, younger gamers to experience the series’ roots for the first time. I do think that as wonderful as it would be to revisit the world of A Link to the Past, the scales might tip in favor of The Legend of Zelda though. This is because A Link to the Past’s successor — A Link Between Worlds — released back in 2013, and Nintendo might not want to focus on titles that are so closely related.  Either way, my heart will always be with A Link to the Past. It would easily be my choice for a modern upgrade!

So, if The Legend of Zelda and A Link to the Past were the only choices available to you, which would you rather see remade and why?  Let us know in the comments below!
