Why Can’t I Remember Playing Twilight Princess? I know I played through and beat it, but for the life of me can’t recall a single detail from that game. Typically, this sort of thing would not be out of the ordinary. I play many games throughout the year, and very few titles really stick with me long-term. But for this to happen to a franchise like The Legend of Zelda, my favorite of all time, seems absolutely absurd.  And yet, here I am scraping my mind for a trace of this game and coming up with nothing. Was it really that forgettable, or did it get lost, buried under impressions of the franchise’s more favorable games?

Even with the internet for reference, I still have zero connection to the images and videos I see. It’s as if a dark force came along and stole it all from my mind. I do remember being excited for it when it was first announced. It’s artwork was far removed from Wind Waker’s cartoonish style, which only just recently began to grow on me. Adult Link’s return was a great move. I hadn’t seen him since Ocarina of Time. The hype was there! Yet somehow, actually sitting down with controller in hand and playing this darker take on the lands of Hyrule? Well. . . that’s all a blank.

There are elements that are odd and unique, things that should’ve stuck with me: Controlling wolf Link as he navigated in and out of the twilight realm. The Oocca, which have got to be the most bizarre race seen in any Zelda game, or any game period. And yet, I can’t remember interacting with them at all. Not one single conversation I had with these cucco-like creatures rings a bell. Hopefully soon, Nintendo will remake or re-release it for the Switch. Maybe then, I could have that memorable playthrough. In the meantime, I could check out Zelda Dungeon’s own Twilight Princess programming at this year’s marathon!
