There are few things that get me as excited as the release of a new Zelda title. Whether it’s a mainline game or a spinoff title, the leadup to the release of a Zelda game is one of the most enjoyable times in the life of any Zelda fan. With the upcoming release of Tears of the Kingdom, there’s a lot of things we don’t know about. Whether it’s a slow marketing campaign or Nintendo just being extremely careful with what’s likely to be their biggest release of 2023, many of us are wanting to fill our time in a way to prepare ourselves.

That brings us to day’s Daily Debate question: What is the best way to prepare for a new game in the series, or specifically, the upcoming Tears of the Kingdom release? Are you diving back into Breath of the Wild? Replaying a different game perhaps? Are you taking time off work or school to dive in on release day?

I have had this day circled on my calendar since the announcement. Yes, I’ve had to change it a few times, *grumble mumble* but at least in premise I’ve known my plan. I’m taking the day of release and at least the first half of the following week off work. I’m also restarting Breath of the Wild sometime in March with a story focused playthrough. I promised my son that we would go through all the major parts of that game again, with the hopes of ending it right before Tears of the Kingdom releases. Then with the time off, my wife, son, daughter (named after the titular princess herself), and I are going to dive in all-day, every-day until we beat it.

I’m extremely excited for this whole process, albeit a little exhausted from the wait. Nonetheless, now that we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, my excitement has been rekindled. What about you? How do you ready yourself to dive into Hyrule anew? Do you have any plans to replay any games before Tears of the Kingdom releases? Are you taking time off? Let us know in the comments below or chat about it over in our Discord!
