Easter is coming a little later this year, but you don’t have to wait to look for Easter eggs! While you could boil up some eggs and leave them around the neighborhood, that’s far less fun than going on an egg hunt in Zelda games. From secret lines to secret locations, there’s plenty for you to explore! For those unaware, an Easter egg in gaming is any secret that contains a joke, secret message, or reference to something else. They’re typically well hidden and can take years to find!

A personal favorite of mine is the secret painting room in Ocarina of Time. Found in Princess Zelda’s courtyard, the room can be seen through a window. It’s filled with portraits of several Super Mario characters. Hit the window with your slingshot, and you’re awarded with some rupees! The other room window has a secret too, but I’ll let you discover that for yourselves.

Another great example of a Zelda Easter egg involves the Shrines in Breath of the Wild. The 2017 smash hit is the only game to give us a written language for the Sheikah. While most of this writing is limited to a couple of words, players have found the phrase, “It’s dangerous to go alone,” broadcast on map pins. Of course, this is a call back to the very first Zelda game, when a kindly old man gives Link a sword.

My fellow egg hunters, what secrets have you found? Do you have a favorite Easter egg? Or would you rather spend your time in a Bunny Hood, planting boiled eggs, than look for in-game secrets? Hop to the comments section and let us know!
