With so many Zelda games, it’s easy to debate each and every strength and weakness of a particular title. Because there are so many intricate parts to what makes each game unique, ranking them can be quite difficult. Since they are all of such high quality, differentiating between them can feel like choosing a favorite child.

Nonetheless, we all have our favorite Zelda game; the one we could gush about for hours on end and the one we always consider replaying to recapture that joy. With so many positive things to say about our own favorite title, it just goes to show how many positive things there are in each Zelda game. That being said, your least favorite, by definition, likely has some things you don’t enjoy — but it may also be someone else’s favorite for those same reasons!

One of my least favorite Zelda games is Phantom Hourglass. The Temple of the Ocean King is a hassle that repeats itself one too many times. However, I do love this game’s humor, especially considering the character of Linebeck and his distinct personality. Although I’m a sucker for dark themes, I particularly liked how Phantom Hourglass didn’t shy away from a more comical and whimsical approach. This title injected a new sense of subversive humor into the series that fit well with the cartoonish setting. I felt that it took the humor of The Wind Waker to the next step, making it my favorite thing about my least favorite game.
