Whilst Breath of the Wild features sentient malice and six-legged death machines, the style and tone remains light, colorful and whimsical. The art style could be compared to Skyward Sword which featured a similar Pixar-esque art direction with its vibrant hues and softer shapes. This raises the question, is this now what we can expect for all Zelda games to come?

Whilst I love the infectious charm that Breath of the Wild exudes, I can’t help but miss the dark fantasy setting of Twilight Princess or the doomed air of Majora’s Mask. Morphing into a snarling beast to battle faceless, obsidian hunchbacks or healing the souls of tortured spirits were darker touches in the grand tapestry of the Zelda franchise that made it sing as a series, that I’d like to see return.

But enough from me, what do you think? Would you like to see a grittier side to Zelda? Do you miss the gloom? Or are you happy with where its at currently? Let us know in the comments below!
