Daily Debate: Has The Sheikah Slate Killed The Need For Items?

Back in the days before the Sheikah Slate was invented, Link had to rely on a number of interesting and unique gadgets to save Hyrule. Remember flying over a gap with the Hookshot and landing on that ‘just out of reach’ platform for the first time? The Eye of Truth was helpful to see the invisible. The Rod of Seasons had its merits as well when solving puzzles. But the Sheikah Slate has revolutionized solving puzzles inside the shrines of Breath of the Wild with runes: Remote Bomb, Magnesis, Stasis, and Cryonis. It even has a camera function and helps you summon a motorcycle! But when one gadget can perform so many different functions, is there really any need for other gadgets?

As much as I love the inclusion of tech in Breath of the Wild, I do miss collecting historical relics from different areas. When doing so, I felt a sense of progression through the world map. You can collect new runes from different shrines in Breath of the Wild, but it just doesn’t feel the same to me. Perhaps this may be because the color scheme and music are the same.
