Daily Debate: If The Legend of Zelda was a Turn-based RPG, which Two NPCs Would you choose to Fight Alongside Link?

A stand out feature of The Legend of Zelda is its action-based fighting. You take direct control of Link. Attack with his sword, do a charging dash into his enemies and wield a multitude of tools and items in order to solve some tricky puzzles. This offers players a close connection with our hero in green as he ventures forth through the lands of Hyrule. But, what if The Legend of Zelda had a turn-based battling system?
Turn-based role playing games come with their own set of advantages. Perhaps the most important of which is that they allow you to develop a team of your choosing. You can then strategize with their strengths to beat your opponents. The Zelda series is filled with unique characters that could join the fight! Turn-based RPGs tend to use leveling systems and a plethora of weapons, armor and equipment to enhance unique characters. Usually there will be a magic or special ability-building feature that allows for the customization to your party and play style. This way, you can really get to know and control multiple characters all at once and build your team up into a fighting force capable of saving the world.
Pick your favorite Zelda game as a setting. Either Link or Zelda would be your party’s leader for this quest. Now, select two non-playable characters from that game to join Link or Zelda on this adventure. How would that team function in a classic RPG system?
For me, I’d choose The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past as my setting because it’s my favorite game in the series. As for my two party members, first, I’d choose Syrup the Magic Shop owner. Her potions have always been vital, and there’s got to be some magic spells in her command list that would come in handy. Next, I’d choose one of the Dwarven Swordsmiths. I’m certain their hammers pack a wallop.
What do you think? What characters from the series would you choose? How would they work in a Legend of Zelda RPG? Please share in the comments below.
Mage of the cosmos, guide and traveler through realms fantastic. A world builder who loves to see how much depth and life I can bring to each of my creations.
