While waiting with bated breath (pun intended) for news on Breath of the Wild’s sequel at E3 next week, why not indulge in one more fan project inspired by its 2019 teaser trailer. This short film by RwanLink digs deeper into Zelda’s state of mind following the events of Breath of the Wild, and shows the circumstances under which Link and Zelda find themselves down in that cave. Let this fan film tide you over before Nintendo’s E3 presentation where, Goddesses willing, we’ll get some more information on the upcoming title.

RwanLink is a self-taught 3D animator and content creator who also works on VFX, sound design, lighting, and video editing. This animation, entitled The Forgotten King, was made using Unreal Engine. Mosik composed the incredible music, Cat Protano provided Zelda’s voice, Flikitos created the Ganondorf model, and Amiibolad made the custom Zelda model.

If you enjoyed this short film, RwanLink has several other Zelda animations you can check out. And if you want to support further works by this creator, you can donate to RwanLink’s Patreon.

Hopefully by next week we’ll have some information confirming or denying the film’s assumptions about Breath of the Wild 2’s plot. But if not, we’ll just have to keep on dreaming for a little while longer. What did you think of this animation? Are there any other Zelda fan theories you would like to see RwanLink bring to life? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Edited to reflect that Nintendo’s E3 presentation is next week.
