Hollywood superstar Timothée Chalamet took the stage last night at The Game Awards 2023 to present the ceremony’s most coveted prize, the Game of the Year award. But, in a “Keighleys” tradition, before the envelope was opened and the winner announced, the Game Awards orchestra, led by Scottish composer Lorne Balfe, performed a stirring medley of themes inspired by each Game of the Year nominee.

The 2023 Game of the Year medley featured themes from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2Resident Evil 4Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and eventual Game of the Year winner Baldur’s Gate 3. Highlights for me were the Tears of the Kingdom movement (obviously) and the show-stealing performance of Pedro “Flute Guy” Eustache. The only thing missing was an encore appearance by rock band Poets of the Fall, who tore the house down earlier in the night.

These annual Game of the Year medleys demonstrate just how prestigious and classy The Game Awards could be, if the event scaled back on the bloated celebrity segments and wall-to-wall game announcements. Do you agree? What did you think of the medley? Let us know in the comments!
