During this morning’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate presentation, series director Masahiro Sakurai announced that Byleth, the protagonist of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, will be joining the game as the fifth DLC fighter. Utilizing an arsenal of Hero’s Relics, Byleth — both their male and female incarnations are playable — is described as a “distance demon” with many powerful long-range attacks. And Byleth’s Final Smash, called “Progenitor God Ruptured Heaven, seems both flashy and hard hitting.

Byleth will be included in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s Challenger Pack 5, which will be the last of the DLC packs initially announced for the game’s Fighters Pass. Six additional fighters will be released as part of Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Challenger Pack 5, which is due to release on January 28th, will also include a new stage based on Garreg Mach Monastery from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, a collection of 11 new songs from across the Fire Emblem series, a new Spirit board, and a new Classic Mode route.

Byleth and Challenger Pack 5 will be available January 28th for $5.99 USD.

A few members of the Zelda Dungeon staff recently shared their hopes for a Fire Emblem: Three Houses character in Smash Bros. Ultimate as part of our Fantasy Roster feature. How do you feel about Byleth’s addition to the roster? Are there too many Fire Emblem characters in Smash? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
