UPDATE 2: We now have footage of the entire demo, which shows off playing as both Midna and Link!

UPDATE: We now have footage of playing as Midna! Midna is not playable on the show floor, so this video of the Nintendo Treehouse demo is the only place we’ll get to see our favorite Twilight Princess in action.

Nintendo Treehouse had what amounted to roughly an hour long session with the E3

Hyrule Warriors demo and we learned a lot of new details. The footage itself isn’t available online yet, but we’ll include a few looks at some off-screen stuff to give you a feel for the details we discovered.

  • Demo: Playing as Midna.
  • Palace of Twilight-inspired level
  • Midna: creates a Twilight-magic-wolf to run around on and attack enemies; yellow meter is Special Attack; Midna’s Special Attack creates huge ball of Twilight energy to attack with; major Special Attack: Fused Shadow Beast
  • Redead Knight – enemy captain; captains require you to deplete their “Weak Point” gauge to attack them
  • Keeps – want to get your army to control the keeps; defeating enemies lowers the Keep Gauge and makes the Keep Boss appear; defeat Keep Boss to take control of the Keep
  • Outpost – defeat outpost captains and allies will eventually spawn with each outpost captain defeated
  • Demo’s Chest contains Hookshot
  • Argorok – title appears (“Twilit Dragon: Argorok”)
  • Use the hookshot to attack the Argorok
  • Leveling up is a thing
  • Link is faster and more combo-based
  • Enemy morale can be higher, which makes enemies more difficult to defeat
  • Zelda activates a magic circle to take out Argorok; he reappears later

  • Game is like a love letter to Zelda fans
  • Playing field is a huge battlefield, and you aren’t the only one fighting. Up to player to decide how to claim areas of the battlefield. Adds sense of urgency and chaos. Boss battles take place in same battlefield, can start on and move around the field
  • Loading screens contain NES Link capturing Triforce
  • Fire Rod gameplay: Fire Rod magic attack shoots a blast of Fire at enemies; special attack blasts enemies with spiral of flame
