Making Princess Zelda a playable character has been a common request from Zelda fans for years now. In fact, when Skyward Sword was in development, the producers almost added on a second adventure that took us on Zelda’s journey to reawakening her memories as Hylia. So the idea of her being playable in the future doesn’t seem too far off. Seeing that she only appeared in Breath of the Wild through memories and during a few short scenes in the ending, it would be awesome if some of Tears of the Kingdom was played in her perspective.

Looking at the limited footage we’ve received from the trailers, it seems Zelda may be stuck in the catacombs beneath Hyrule Castle for a majority of Link’s adventure. However, what if we got to play as her while she’s down there on her own journey? It seems we got a few glimpses of some sort of realm beneath Hyrule in the latest trailer, complete with strange mushrooms, mining Bokoblins, and what looks to be bluish remains of departed souls. From the official art work, it also looks like she has a new version of the Sheikah Slate on her hip… maybe to aid her in her own quest?

What if we haven’t seen much footage from the game because Princess Zelda might have a much larger and surprising role to play in it? I for one would be all for it! The series is called The Legend of Zelda, after all. Maybe this time around, Link will take to the skies, while the princess’s adventure takes place beneath the kingdom.

What do you think? Would you like to play as Zelda in Tears of the Kingdom? Let me know in the comments!
