Zombie HoverThere are people in this world who can beat The Wind Waker in about four and a half hours. How in the world is this possible? Well it’s mostly the product of a glitch called “zombie hover.” Any speed runner would be elated to learn that it is, in fact, going to be a part of the re-release for the Wii U. For those of you who don’t know much about this glitch, I’ll give you the basics. If you bring yourself to zero hearts by some knockback damage, like a bomb or being hit by certain enemies, you have a small fraction of a second to hold L and mash A and B. This will stop Link from dying right there and allow him to start hovering. After all of this, you can mash B (and you have to do it rather quickly) to gain height. This can go on infinitely, so I think you see how this can be useful to skip entire chunks of dungeons. Here is a pretty good video of it in action.

So now for the actual news: they didn’t fix it! At least not yet of course. In a demo of the Wii U’s HD version of this title, to be released in October, a certain YouTuber who goes by Drop0fColor was able to perform a rather short, but still existent, zombie hover. The video is entitled “Still in the game,” and the zombie hover happens all the way at the end of the video, so I suggest you skip through most of it.

I am personally pretty indifferent as to whether or not this makes it into the game, as I don’t love to speed run, and I don’t plan to in this game. Still, I can’t help but feel excited by the fact that I just might be able to try it in HD! I also would probably enjoy watching a speed run of this game a bit more if it were in HD.

So does Nintendo plan to keep it this way? Do they not mind people abusing this glitch for speed running purposes? It’s very possible still that between now and the release, it will be completely fixed, but do they even want to? All good questions with no good answers yet, so I ask: what do you think?
