Our best soundtrack tournament continues with two new titles. As Hyrule Warriors and A Link to the Past duke it out in yesterday’s poll, Oracle of Ages and A Link Between Worlds step into the fray.

Oracle of Ages Vs. A Link Between Worlds

With Oracle of Seasons moving on to Round 2, Oracle of Ages takes on its first challenge in the tournament. Link’s adventures in Labrynna are met with several standout tunes, including the pleasant Lynna City theme, the bouncy Tokay Island theme, and the whimsical Mermaid’s Cave theme. And because our hero must travel between time periods in Ages, the soundtrack features two versions of many songs, one representing the past and one representing the present. Even the classic Zelda Overworld theme is given a distinct version for the game’s past segments.

A Link Between Worlds barely edged out a victory over Spirit Tracks in Round 1, but perhaps the hard-fought victory will mean more momentum for the handheld title in this Round 2 bout. Much praise was aimed at the top-notch quality of this OST, as composer Ryo Nagamatsu made the most of the 3DS’ sound capabilities. Classics from A Link to the Past are rearranged with live instrumentation, and several new tracks were added to the pantheon of timeless Zelda songs. Hilda’s theme and the Lorule Castle theme were just a few examples brought up.

So, it’s time to decide which game had the better soundtrack: Oracle of Ages or A Link Between Worlds
