In a recent segment of “Inside Breath of the Wild,” Commonwealth Realm proposes that the upcoming Zelda title may indeed be a sequel to Twilight Princess. They consider the possibility that after the death of Ganaondorf in Twilight Princess, the kingdom of Hyrule could have witnessed a bit of rebuilding of key locations, such as the Temple of Time, before a terrible vengeance from the newest incarnation of Demise. Under this speculation, the folks at Commonwealth Realm hypothesize that the Sheikah see a revival of their tribe and culture as calamity befalls the failed hero’s quest.

They think that the Oocoo are able to bring back knowledge of the goddess Hylia and evolve into the bird people we see in the “Life in the Ruins” trailer, which sets into motion the war that might have happened after Twilight Princess’s time of peace. The logical conclusion to the hero’s failure during the onslaught of war is to have the Sheikah place him in the Resurrection Chamber and erase his memories so that he isn’t tormented by his past.

Most of the landscape of Breath of the Wild does line up with locations that appear in Twilight Princess, which is most of the basis of this theory.
