Zelda-Themed Film Wins Film Festival

An absolutely beautiful short-film created for the Asian Film Festival Of Dallas has become a winner for its heart-felt display about an abused schoolgirl who loves the Legend of Zelda series. The film titled “Escape” shows her as an underachiever who gets teased everyday, has no friends, and lives in a broken family yet the way she escapes it all is by slotting in her precious Twilight Princess game and switching on her Nintendo GameCube. By pressing the on button on her GameCube she magically enters the world of Zelda; the place she dreams of going rather than being at school with maths problems to solve.

“Escape” is a masterpiece and you can view the short-film after the jump!

I found “Escape” a really emotional experience to view as I felt really angry inside watching her mother’s reaction to her playing Twilight Princess. It was hard not to get all teary as well because this situation happens in so many homes around the world. A lot of us have a need to find a place to hide and escape from our society, especially when it threatens us with abuse, and the Zelda series is a perfect place to go to immerse yourself in another mystical land.

What are your reactions about “Escape”? Do you feel like it deserved to be an Asian Film Festival winner? Can you relate to the girl in the film especially in regard to the Zelda series? Please be sure to write your opinions and thoughts for us.
