Since Super Mario Maker released in 2015, Zelda fans have been asking about when their game will get the same treatment. Nintendo teased the idea with the addition of the Chamber Dungeon in the Link’s Awakening remake on the Nintendo Switch, but its limited scope left many fans feeling underwhelmed. Indie developer Skydevilpalm decided to take matters into their own hands with their new game, Quest Master.

Inspired by top-down action RPGs like Zelda, Crystalis, and the Mana series, Quest Master gives players the ability to create, play, and share dungeons. Players will have the tools to build complex puzzles, intricate traps, and rooms full of monsters to test themselves and their friends in up to three-player co-op.

Quest Master features a 2D pixel-art aesthetic reminiscent of the Super Nintendo or Game Boy Advance. Lava-filled caverns obstruct the player’s view with a smoky haze, forest rivers offer rideable Minish Cap-style lily pads, and dusty desert ruins will bury your character in deep sand. Don’t think this is just a Zelda copycat though, as developers have promised many new features in addition to the classics.

Quest Master is slated for early access on Steam in Q3 2023. A full release is planned for PC and Switch at a later date.

What do you think about Quest Master? Do you think this will be the Zelda Maker fans have wanted? Let us know in the comments!
