elliot-quest A Zelda II inspired ‘8-bit retro adventure game’ entitled Elliot Quest is launching on the Wii U’s eShop on March 19th for $12.99. Fans of The Adventure of Link‘s style should certainly check it out, as it borrows many of the NES classic’s unique traits: side-scrolling gameplay, villages with NPC interactions, and a similar over-world style. In addition, the game utilizes features from other ground breaking NES games. Make the jump to check out the gameplay trailer!

Developed by Luis Zuno, the plot of Elliot Quest is as follows (taken from the official site):

Elliot Quest is an adventure/RPG where players explore the mysterious Urele island in search of an ancient demon. With 5 dungeons to conquer, 16 bosses to defeat, and countless treasures to discover, Elliot Quest is inspired by Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and many other classy titles.

Elliot can’t die—but he’s still running out of time. In Elliot Quest, the victim of a rare curse must find a cure before he’s transformed into a demon.

Zelda II’s inspiration is seen most notably in the over-world section (which features no enemies and is a top down view), as well as in the villages where Elliot can converse with residents. Interestingly, the eponymous Elliot largely resembles Pit from the Kid Icarus series, another game from which inspiration is taken through the similar style of arrow combat. The art style and direction is again somewhat of a homage to the aforementioned classic titles, harking back to the classic 8-bit days.
