Zelda Fanart Spotlight- Sheik

I’m happy to announce the return of the Zelda fanart feature here at Zelda Dungeon. Each week, we’ll feature one exceptional piece of fanart from artists around the web in a myriad of artistic mediums and styles. This week, we are spotlighting a digital art piece from Simplicata of DeviantArt. This is an unusually candid scene of Sheik without her scarf over her face and the Triforce of Wisdom glowing on the back of her hand, apparently caught in the act of infiltrating Geurdo Valley. Small cultural details like the strands of beads dangling off the ceiling and the vibrant crimson cloth draped around the entire structure set up the scene.

The use of movement in this piece is masterful. As spears hurtle towards her, one of them with so much power it shatters a wooden board only inches away from her head, Sheik’s glare seems focused solely on her aggressors as she readies her knife. The harsh desert wind blows Sheik’s hair and cape wildly, it’s force seemingly engulfing everything around her, setting up the perfect conditions for a classic Sheik escape if worst comes to worst.

This is very thoughtful piece of Ocarina of Time fanart. While this scene wasn’t in the game, it gives us a glimpse into what might have been going on during Link’s seven year slumber and the possible perils Sheik might have had to endure. Great Zelda fanart can add depth to the even the greatest games in the series, and this picture succeeds in doing just that.
