Welcome to another fanart spotight. Today we will be looking at two amazing animations by 3D artist Chad Jordan. In 2010 he created a beautiful and accurate model of the Master Sword in Blender along with a complete enviorment built around it, and then released an animation on Youtube showcasing his creation from all sides. He didn’t stop there however; just last week he released a new video featuring his top 5 memorable swords in video game history and with it releaesed a newly updated version of his Master Sword animation. Check out both of these videos after the jump!

The Master Sword scene, which begins at the 2:30 mark, starts off by having the camera make its way through the forest, traveling through a hollow log and zooming in on the majestic sword resting in its pedestal. I can’t help but be reminded of that iconic A Link to the Past image of the Master sword in the forest with the sun’s rays breaking through the thick forests foliage, shimmering off the The Blade of Evil’s Bane.

This is the first video, released a couple of years ago. Although the newer version has a much more detailed background, this one is my personal favorite. The soft lighting really compliments the scenery, and the textures and brighter colors give off a very subtle Skyward Sword tone, even if the game hadn’t yet been released when this render was created. Something about the way the grass is waving through the breeze really amplifies the much softer tone in this version.

Both of these videos are great examples of the power of animation. The light shimmering off the blade of the master sword, and the way the leaves and grass blow through the wind, is an amazing sensory experience that would not have been captured in the same way if this had only been a still image. What do you guys think of these? Leave us your thoughts in the comments below, and if you’re interseted in checking out more of Chad Jorden’s animations and models, check out his YouTube Channel.
