Animated videos depicting moments from video game history have allowed fans to recreate their memories using unique art styles and interpretive emotions to convey the experiences had. Sometimes, rather than a “factual” depiction of what happened in the game, the creator focuses on the potential internal experience had by the player, showing their feelings towards certain events and NPCs, or ways they may have wished to play the game.

Enter Fela animations, and their recreation of some of the opening moments from Ocarina of Time, in the form of an animated video just under 90 seconds in length. Released just a few weeks ago, the short already has over a thousand views, speaking both to the popularity of the creator and the lasting popularity of the game.

Rather than simply replicating the game’s early events in a new art form, Fela takes creative license by highlighting some of the emotions that may have been felt, either by Link or the player, and portraying them in the video. Using sounds from the game as well inserted clips from other sources, Fela animations creates a unique blend that can invoke both nostalgia and a newfound look at what the first moments of Ocarina were like, from being woken up by Navi to encountering Mido. Fela animations takes ultimate creative license when showing Link reacting towards the dangers of the Great Deku Tree in a very different way than how we experience it as a player.

From what I saw on their channel, this is the only Zelda short that Fela has done. I encourage you to take a peak at the animation, as well as their Patreon and Facebook accounts. I’m curious to how much you (as one who has played Ocarina) relate to the video. Were you also that mad at Mido? Is the chaos presented in the video relatable to your initial (or current) play-throughs of the game? Scream like Saria about it in the comments below!
