The Zelda series has some stunning maps. Even the 2D games have iconic ones, especially when you think about their versatility (consider A Link to the Past and its Dark World), and how they manifest in remakes (consider Link’s Awakening DX versus its 2019 version). So, Scatterbrained Creations undertook a massive project to recreate a 3D diorama of Hyrule’s intricate map from Breath of the Wild.

After drawing the map and cutting out some foamboard, work could begin. Stacking spare foam and plaster on top of each other formed Hyrule’s topography, from Dueling Peaks to Hebra. The artist then used acrylics to paint the land and water, adding clump foliage to create the map’s signature forests.

What makes this model particularly special is the 3D-printed, hand-painted Divine Beasts. If you feel inspired to recreate this, you can glance over and appreciate them whenever you miss their presence while playing Tears of the Kingdom. With some finishing touches, including adding shiny resin to the waters and a decorative logo, the diorama was complete. It would be the perfect art piece to hang in any fan’s home.

Since this project, Scatterbrained Creations also made a specific model for the Great Plateau, which featured even more details like Shrines, ruins, and the Temple of Time. The level of detail is impressive; thankfully, popping open the stand on a Switch acts as an interactive reference photo.
