Theory: What Really Is The Trial of the Sword?

The Trial of the Sword was one of the main features of Breath of the Wild‘s first DLC pack and featured 51 challenges for players to overcome in order to power up their Master Sword. The Trials are accessed by placing the Master Sword back in its pedestal in the Korok Forest, but where exactly do they take place?

Zelda theorist Zeltik may have the answer. In his recent analysis video, he points out similarities between the trials and the game’s Shrines, and irregularities in enemy behavior within the rooms, eventually linking the challenge to Ocarina of Time‘s seven sages and highlighting their relationship to the Shiekah Monks found at the end of the trial. Together, he believes this evidence points to the entire trial taking place in a familiar Zelda location (but you’ll have to watch the video if you haven’t figured it out yet or if the video thumbnail hasn’t given it away).
