tww-hd-less-bloom-1With the recent opening of the official teaser site for The Wind Waker HD, fans were treated to more sumptuous art and tantalizing info on the upcoming game. While many people simply overlooked the teaser site because of its apparent lack of new info, Alex from our sister site GenGAME has drawn attention to a few noticeable changes in the screenshots provided from the site to previous images from the game. Hit the jump to find out more.

The differences in the most recent screenshots and the older ones are subtle. Firstly, the size and position of the HUD of the game has been altered. This is most apparent in the sailing screenshots below, where the D-pad and the item icons have been reduced in size as to not detract from, or possibly obscure the main action in the game.

However, the major change has been in the amount of bloom lighting applied to the game’s landscapes. Previously, many fans complained that the excessive use of bloom lighting meant that the game look overly bright and the colors too “washed-out”. However, as Alex points out, the game now appears to employ a much dimmer palette, with the majority of the colors and overall brightness simply appearing to be much more toned-down from the original screenshots. You can see the differences in brightness and HUD size in the before-and-after screenshots below.

Personally, I did think that initially the bloom lighting of the remake was too much, so these alterations are very much welcome changes to the game. I think that the game now looks more faithful to the original, while still being a beautifully stylish game in its own right, which I think was the expectation of many when the remake was first announced.

But what do you think? Do you think these changes are an improvement on the original screenshots, or do you think that the original lighting effects were fine in the first place? Tell us in the comments below.
