According to a recent press release from Nintendo, sharing data from the NPD Group, the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite combined sold 1.35 million units during the month of November, making it the best selling console in the US for 24 months consecutively. This is quite a feat coming off a month that saw the launch of two next-gen consoles: Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Sony’s PlayStation 5.

During Black Friday, Nintendo offered a discounted Switch bundle that came with a digital code for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and a free 3 month Individual Membership to Switch Online, which helped drive sales of the console for the month.

“Nintendo Switch offers a unique proposition for shoppers this holiday season with the ability to play on the TV or portably in handheld mode,” said Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We continue to see unprecedented demand for Nintendo Switch, and we are pleased that people of all ages and gaming skill levels will be experiencing Nintendo Switch this holiday and beyond.”

While the Switch sold more units, the PlayStation 5 generated higher consumer sales for the month due to its higher price range, according to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella. It’s also worth noting the next-gen consoles faced constraints with availability, which may have stifled their sales by units sold.

Currently the Switch has sold 6.92 million units in the U.S. in the past 11 months, surpassing the overall number of systems sold for 2019 by over 426,000 units. Nintendo believes the Switch will maintain its upward trend, projecting it to sell 24 million units worldwide in fiscal 2020, ending March 2021. Only time will tell how the hybrid console will fair once the production snags are worked out for the next gen consoles.
