Following up on last month’s Definitive Ranking of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamitythis month we are giving our thoughts on the one of the most divisive Zelda games: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Since news of Skyward Sword HD was announced back in February, many fans are looking forward to playing this title on the Switch. So, how does the original fare before the remaster hits in July? Well, Mases and Gooey share the good, the bad, and the ugly in their usual informative and quirky style!

As tradition with previous episodes, we polled both the staff at Zelda Dungeon and the community at large for their opinions on the game, which you can view down below. Mases and Gooey take us through a journey of their opinions on the game’s highs and lows across ten categories.

In many categories, the community poll and staff poll are quite close. There is a dramatic difference between side content and extra scores, which can also be seen in Mases and Gooey’s opinions too. Both the staff and the community are more forgiving regarding the game’s world category and the pacing and progression. The music and dungeons fare well all round as scores of 4 or more. Gooey admitted he found the the harp sections offensive to the instrument itself! Our hosts with the most agreed overall that this game has one of the best soundtracks in the series, described as soothing and making good use of character themes.

In the staff ranking, Skyward Sword finds itself nestled quite nicely with Twilight Princess and Link’s Awakening for company. The community has just a little more love for A Link Between Worlds, but Skyward Sword still maintains a respectable 3.7. Both Mases and Gooey have scored the game lower but anything could happen in our next poll!

Our March poll for Phantom Hourglass has already wrapped up, and you can view that ranking video right here.

What are your thoughts on The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword? Do you think Nintendo will make enough quality-of-life changes in the remake to shake up the scores? Let us know in the comments below! And don’t forget to let us know what you loved or didn’t love by voting in April’s poll for our next games: Wand of Gamelon & Faces of Evil!
