A number of elements have to be pulled off and blended well to make a dungeon something special; often, however, the most memorable dungeons stick out in player’s minds because of one thing: the atmosphere. In a similar way, the most memorable atmosphere is often caused by some extremely fitting music for players to hum along to in their journey. In this week’s ZD Top, ZeldaDungeon staff members recount five of their favorites. As always, feel free to leave your…

Just a few months ago, we featured the Smash Bros. tribute album entitled Harmony of Heroes, including 101 tracks and over seven hours of music. The team behind this project recently announced a brand new set of additional tracks, including several new Zelda songs. Harmony of Heroes takes fans from all over the world, arranging a variety of music genres from several Nintendo franchises. Hit the jump to take a look!

It seems that no matter the Zelda game, whether it be excellent or average (there are no bad ones!), one of the few things you can count on is superb music. In fact, I feel that one of my least favorite Zelda games, Spirit Tracks, has one of the strongest soundtracks in the series. Despite being a kid-friendly adventure series, the Zelda franchise has in its sound library a variety of songs that bring out a wide range of emotions…

This week’s Windmill Hut is an in depth review of a YouTube gem known as thomandy. His channel is almost completely dedicated to cover songs on the piano, and a great deal of them are from the Zelda series. At the awesome quality of his performances, I find it astounding that most of his videos don’t have that many views. I believe he deserves to sit among the YouTube Zelda cover artist greats. Jump in to see why.

In last week’s editorial, I reviewed some of Zelda’s early music, jumping around every few years or so. Not unlike the other outstanding qualities of Zelda games, the music has improved markedly through the ages. What started out as a fledgling franchise grew to become one of the biggest inspirations in gaming today and the soundtrack boasts an equally impressive legacy. Just as Zelda ages gracefully like a fine wine, the nostalgic if somewhat primitive music of yesteryear is just…

At our request, YouTuber and Zelda Dungeon forum member Pl511 has created something interesting yet again. This time he’s composed a medley of the warp songs from Ocarina of Time in the following order: “Requiem of Spirit”, “Bolero of Fire”, “Minuet of Forest”, “Serenade of Water”, “Nocturne of Shadow” and the “Prelude of Light”. Make the jump to watch the video and stay tuned for any more requested works in the future!

It has been a few months since the release of CsGuitar89’s full length Zelda tribute album, Hymns of Light And Shadows and as promised, he has been releasing a new video once a week featuring songs from the album.  His intentions with this album was to have a full length album that lasted atleast an hour.  He successfully met his goal when he finally released it with a full track list of 18 songs ranging from many different Zelda games…

The Power of Songs

September 20 2010 by Jacob Green

An article was recently posted on Zelda Informer discussing the nature, power and origin of the songs used by Link in the Zelda series. The author points out that the songs themselves aren’t what holds the power, but more likely the power is borrowed from the gods whom Link calls upon when he plays one of the many songs from the Zelda series. He notes that some of the songs might have been taught to the people of Hyrule by…

So here it is, guys, the last Curiosity Shop before E3! Next week’s going to be one hell of a party, expect some big things! Until then, I’ll try to keep you satiated with some discussion videos. The questions and their timestamps are: (00:30) – You said you wanted less dungeons, but what if the dungeons were done well? (01:15) – What do you think is the hardest game in the series? (02:18) – Do you think Midna will be…
