A while ago on Windmill Hut we featured some works by the Blake Robinson Synthetic Orchestra, which you can go check out here. But because of the absolutely enormous amount of music that he’s orchestrated from Zelda tunes, we’re back again to listen to some more Zelda orchestrations! Hopefully you’re already familiar with the Blake Robinson Synthetic Orchestra, or at least have heard other projects such as Zelda Reorchestrated, so hit the jump to enjoy some music!

The Legend of Zelda series, like many of the popular NES games of the 80’s, has expanded into newer territory and evolved with its gameplay, mechanics, and rich mythology. One of the most notable aspects of the series that has continued to change and evolve is its music. What began as an ordinary soundtrack that played along with the game just as any other at the time gained a high level of popularity as the series progressed. As later games…

Ever since the Wii U was announced at E3 2011, Zelda fans have wondered whether we might see HD rereleases of a few recent games in Nintendo’s beloved franchise. Wednesday came jam-packed with Wii U news, but unquestionably the most talked-about is that we won’t be seeing an upscaled Zelda game, but a full remake of perhaps the most daring entry in the series—The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker—coming before the end of the year. Alongside this announcement, Nintendo revealed several screenshots to show fans how the game looks in its new format. With the question of visual fidelity out of the way, fans have one thing on their mind: music.

Most of you need no explanation as to why orchestral scores enhance the experience of a game tenfold. To this day, the soundtrack to 2007’s Super Mario Galaxy is hailed as one of the best in gaming history. Credit is due largely to composers Mahito Yokota and Koji Kondo, but the score as a whole surely would not have been so widely praised if not for the orchestra that brought these compositions to life. Why, then, might Nintendo be afraid to do it again?

Ever since Skyward Sword was revealed to have orchestrated music, fans have been bustling about the advantages and disadvantages of having an orchestrated score. There are valid points on both sides, to be sure, but to be honest, the argument has little to no purpose. Personally, I have been an avid listener of orchestral music since I was a child, and I have also fallen in love with the music of Zelda games. Naturally, the discussion weighs heavily on me,…

Yes, The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses Tour that has been hitting cities around North America since April 7th is going to be even better. The great news is that this already-spectacular show became even better now with the addition of a Majora’s Mask movement during the concert in the Orpheum Theater in Pheonix, Arizona. Symphony of the Goddesses normally includes four-movement symphonies that tell the stories of Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, the Wind Waker and A…

This week’s music box is something a bit less modern sounding – the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra performing the Hyrule Castle theme from A Link to the Past. The song already had a very “epic” atmosphere in the game, and the arrangement these guys played magnifies that by a lot. This is definitely one of the best songs in a Zelda game, so you’ll really be missing out if you don’t hear this version – check it out after the…

The Zelda Symphony that was set for January 10, 2012 at 7:30 pm in Dallas, TX has been reported as ‘Sold Out’ by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s website. This is really unsurprising since Dallas is a large city and it’s natural to think that there are a lot of Zelda fans living there. Please take the jump to see a quote describing the concert and my thoughts.

A video was posted about the recording of the Zelda 25th Anniversary Special Orchestra CD. It features the orchestra playing the Main Theme Medley. It can also be viewed on the Nintendo 3DS via the Nintendo Video app. It is also a higher quality version of the video we had posted about earlier. Make the jump to see the video and my thoughts on their performance.
